Ethanol Extraction

aka EtOH extraction

Ethanol extraction uses food-grade alcohol as a solvent to pull cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis biomass. Ethanol is widely used in tincture and distillate production; it is generally considered safer for operators than butane or propane and is a common industrial hemp processing method. Residual ethanol must be purged below state-defined limits and disclosed on the COA.

Example: This distillate started life in a centrifuge ethanol extraction.

Etymology: Chemistry-standard English; cannabis-industry adoption widespread post-2014.
