Indica
aka cannabis indica
Indica is one of the two original taxonomic groupings of cannabis (alongside sativa). In consumer culture, indica strains are associated with body-heavy, sedating, sleepy, full-body-relaxation effects. Modern science questions whether the indica/sativa label reliably predicts effects — terpene and cannabinoid profile may matter more — but the labels remain dominant in retail.
Example: Indica strains like Granddaddy Purple are popular for evening sessions.
Etymology: From the species name Cannabis indica, applied by Lamarck in 1785 to plants from India.
