Salve

aka topical · balm

A salve is a topical cannabinoid product applied directly to the skin for localized effects. Salves typically contain CBD, CBG, and/or minor cannabinoids in a beeswax or shea butter base, sometimes augmented with menthol or essential oils. Topicals deliver localized relief without psychoactive effects since cannabinoids do not cross into the bloodstream from the skin.

Example: A CBD salve is a common option for joint or muscle soreness.

Etymology: Old English 'sealfian,' meaning 'to anoint.'
